Earl C. Jeans a forth generation member of the pioneer Jeans family who came from Missouri, by ox team and settled in the Veneta area in 1850, died April 27, 2007. Earl was born in Ft. Vancouver, Washington to parents Elbert Cecil and Esther Putnam Jeans, April 14, 1918. He graduated from the old Thurston High School. He attended the University of Oregon, joined the National Guard in 1940 after Pearl Harbor, he was sent to Fort Benning for officers training, and served in the infantry in Hawaii, Okinawa and the Philippines, earning the rank of First Lieutenant.
He married Doris Allen in 1942, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Feb. 13, 2007.
He returned to school at Oregon College of Education, and to the University of Oregon. His love of fishing turned into a full-time occupation, and he guided on the McKenzie, Rogue, Middle Fork of the Salmon in Idaho, rivers in the Olympic Pennisula in Washington, and also owned and skippered a charter boat out of La Push, Washington for 22 years. He retired when he was 70.
He is survived by his wife Doris Jeans, a daughter, Susan Church of Lewiston, Idaho, grandsons Jay and Danny Church: many nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the McKenzie River Guides Assoc., The Springfield Elks and Springfield Veterans of Foreign War.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his two nephews David and Raymond Jeans, his garden and the computer and was an avid fan of the Oregon Ducks.
