Obituary for Dolores T. Aichinger
Dolores Theresa Aichinger
June 10, 1933 – August 29, 2018

Dolores, aged 85, joined her beloved husband of 46 years, Al, in heaven, while surrounded by her family.

Dolores was born in Providence, RI to Arthur and Eva Moreau. She graduated from Mount Pleasant HS where she was a member of the RI Honor Society. She then worked as a typist at the Brown & Sharpe Mfg. Co. in Providence until she in enlisted the United States Air Force. She served as a Communications Specialist during the Korean War. While on duty in Japan she met and married her husband Alvyn L. Aichinger Jr. In the following years they would live in Los Angeles, CA, Fort Huachuca, Fort MacArthur, CA, Fort Lewis, WA and finally Tacoma, WA when her husband retired from the Army.

After leaving the Air Force, Dolores spent 14 years as a homemaker and mother to 7 children. She decided to start a career and began as a sales clerk for the Army and Air Force Exchange at Fort MacArthur. Upon her husband’s return from Vietnam and assignment to Fort Lewis she transferred to the AAFES Puget Sound Distribution Center located there. By the time she retired in 1990 she was the Personnel Manager.

Dolores joined the South Tacoma Eagles in August 1980. She went through the chairs and became Madame President in 1989/90. She also held positions of Charity Chair for 2 years, Membership Chair for 12 years and was on the Degree Team for 15 years. She loved the Eagles and called it her home away from home. She felt happiest while working as “Door Person” for Friday Night Hamburgers.

Dolores loved to travel, Hawaii being her favorite destination, referring to it as her own private paradise. She also attended many Eagle State and Grand conventions. She always dreamed of taking a cruise and finally got that opportunity when an Eagle sister suggested a cruise around the Hawaiian Islands. Dolores and Dawn became best friends and took a cruise almost every year for a while. Dolores and her daughter Julie took 4 cruises together. Dolores would take one cruise with Julie and another daughter Tanya. She was planning one more cruise when she passed away.

Dolores’s husband Alvyn Jr preceded her in death on December 14, 1998. Two of her sons also preceded her in death, Bryan on December 14, 1984 and Randy on July 18, 2010.

She is survived by her daughter Diane Darger (Dennis), son Alvyn Aichinger III, daughter Julie Ditlefsen (Walt), son Steve Aichinger (Gayle) and daughter Tanya Miller (Pete) and 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
