William "Bill" E. Madden

Manitowoc - William "Bill" E. Madden, age 71, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.

Bill was born on October 26, 1946 in Madison, WI to the late James D. and Teresa J. Byrns Madden. He graduated from Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha. On August 3, 1968, Bill married Alice L. Greiner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waukesha. He proudly served in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge and retirement. Bill later became employed as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 30 years. He enjoyed spending his time building models, restoring automobiles, reading, gardening, playing with his pets, and above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family - especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include Bill's wife of 50 years, Alice; son, James D. (Jennifer) Madden II, Atchison, KS; daughter, Angela L. (Joseph) Madden-Heinzen, Manitowoc; eight grandchildren, William E. Madden II, Martha E. Madden, James Patrick Madden, Brendan J. Madden, John "Jack" D. Madden, Cormac M. Madden, Anna K. Heinzen and Benjamin C. Heinzen; brother, Michael J. (Annette) Madden, Pasadena, CA; sister, Margret A. (James) Nettesheim, Menomonee Falls; a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sally and Jack Rosenthal, Oshkosh; also other relatives and many special friends. Bill also loved his time with his many special canine companions. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, James D. and Teresa J. Madden; brother, Patrick Madden; and sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo (Ken) Janson.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo - 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc with Rev. Doug LeCaptain officiating. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with burial to be at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1 p.m. A light luncheon will follow at the school basement.
