Graveside services wll be Thursday for Raymond Harvey Schuyler, who died Monday at a Watsonville convalescent hospital after a long illness. He was 91. Mr. Schuyler, a native of Santa Rita, N.M., moved to Aromas in 1945 from Stockton. He operated Ray's Auto Shop in Aromas for 10 years, and worked as a bus driver and custodian for Aromas School. He was a volunteer firefighter for several years before becoming the first fire chief in Aromas from 1958 until retiring in 1971. He was chief when the Aromas Fire District was formed. He had been a member of the Aromas Grange since 1948, served as master of the Grange the following year. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elma Schuyler of Watsonville and two daughters, Lucille Bowles of Aromas and Shirley Wood of Watsonville; six grand children: and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park, 127 Hecker Pass Road, Watsonville. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Mehl's Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville.
