Milton C. Roeder, 85, of Blaine, Kansas, formerly of Colorado, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at the Onaga Community Hospital. He was born March 26, 1933 to Clarence and Marjorie (Morton) Roeder in Frankfort, Kan. Known by family and friends as Dad, Grandpa, Milt, Dutch or Bud. He graduated from St. Columbkille School in Blaine in 1951. After high school he attended Kansas State University, completing two years of college before joining the United States Army in 1953. He married Marita McCormick in 1954. After his Army service he entered Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kan., graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Education in the spring of 1957. He completed his Master's in School Administration in 1962 at Colorado State College in Greeley, Colo. Milt began his career in education in the fall of 1957 at Fostoria, teaching grades five through eight in a two room school house. His final job in education was as Superintendent of Schools in Liberty, Colo. where he retired in 2005. Between Fostoria and Liberty he made many stops in Colorado including Colorado Springs, Woodland Park, Widefield, Branson, Weldona, Kim, Otis, and Haxtun. At each location his impact was felt and remembered by many. He loved the challenge of a new school system and a unique set of problems to overcome. During his education career he also owned and operated a health food store, restaurant, and ice cream store, bought and sold real estate, sold school supplies and books, and mentored doctoral candidates pursuing a PhD in School Administration. Milt loved sports. Whether playing in high school, coaching kids, going to games or watching on television he enjoyed it all. After moving to Frankfort in 2012 he watched many Kansas City Chiefs and Royals games but his heart was always with the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he lived. After retiring he had coffee most mornings with a local group of guys solving the problems of the world each day. Milt is survived by three daughters Jeanie Kett of St. Paul, Minn., Terri McClain of Blaine, and Pat Roeder of Wheat Ridge, Colo., and seven grandchildren, Joshua Herrera, Katie Herrera, Zachary Herrera, Nicholas Herrera, Jon Hill, Stephanie (Dani) Na’aman and Benjamin Kett. He is proceeded in death by his parents, brother James, and sister Barbara. Services at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, Blaine, with visitation from 6-8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29. Burial with Military Honors will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Lunch immediately following burial at the Parish Hall next to the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Columbkille Church Restoration Fund.
