Death and Burial
"A little over a month after their arrival on the spot, sorrow came to the little community through the death of one of their number. Herman op den Graeff wrote a letter to the friends left behind : " My mother died on November nineteenth and was buried in this very place." Thus begins this spot as a burying ground.
First Meeting House
Being thus consecrated, this lot naturally became the place for the location of the first church in Germantown. Pastorius in one of his reports : " We have here in Germantown, in the year 1686 built a little chruch (Kirchlein) for the 'Germeinde', not with a view to an outwardly large stone structure, but that the temple of God (which we believers ourselves are) may be built up and all of us be nurtured in holiness and a godly life."Greitjen Pletjes was born Nov 26, 1588 in Kempen, Rhineland, Prussia, present-day Germany and died Jan 7, 1643 in Krefeld, Muir, present-day Germany at the age of 55.

She married Herman Isacks Op den Graeff on Aug 16, 1605 in present-day Germany. He was born Nov 26, 1585 and died on Dec 27, 1642 at the age of 57.
