Obituary:
Death has claimed the life of Homer Speer, 76, 1619 "C" Street, father of Roy E. Speer, owner of Ferguson & Speer Funeral Home in Bedford. Mr. Speer passed away at 5:30 a.m. Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harold Jackman, Indianapolis.
Mr. Speer had been ill since the first day of May. He was born March 3, 1881, in Lawrence County to Andrew G and Nancy J. (Campbell) Speer, and married May Campbell in early life. He was a retired restaurant employee, having been employed by Ray Elliott on the west side of the square in Bedford for 27 years.
Survivors include two sons--Roy E. Speer of Bedford, and Duard Speer of Indianapolis; four daughters--Mrs. Emory Easton and Mrs. Harold Jackman, both of Indianapolis, Mrs. Millard Clephane of Detroit, Michigan, and Mrs. Dillard Little of Bedford; eight grandchildren; two brothers--Henry Speer of Bedford and Frank Speer of Pinhook; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Flinn of Bedford; and two half-sisters--Mrs. Curtis Gilstrap and Miss Ella Speer, both of Bedford.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Bedford. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Ferguson & Speer Funeral Home, with Brother Loren N. Raines of Indianapolis and Brother William J. Whaley of Bedford officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.
