Dr. Williams was an esteemed African American physician, surgeon and medical lecturer who worked at Provident Hospital in Chicago . He was a son of Baptise and Flora Williams. He married Mary Elizabeth Tibbs on June 22, 1900 in Chicago. Mary was born in Danville, KY in 1868 (some sources say 1874) to Benjamin Franklin and Mary Langford Tibbs. Mary Elizabeth Tibbs Williams died June 26, 1934 and is buried near her husband, Dr. Williams, on the J.H. Green family plot. He died of a heart attack at his home on the evening of March 4, 1940. His nickname was not Albert but I knew no other way to identify what Dr. Williams "A" initial stood for without confusing this memorial with two other Albert Williams' buried in Lincoln Cemetery. (Note: I took these photos of the Green family gravestones intentionally. I did not know anything about Dr. Williams, his family who is buried there and another prominent African American physician, Dr. Floyd Willis, who is buried nearby. If I had, I would have taken better, individual photos during my August visit to Lincoln Cemetery. R. Huffstutter 9-15-18).
