Thelma L. Sanders, 72, of Flora, died at 1:35 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2002, at Flora Pavilion Nursing Center.

Mrs. Sanders was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Lawrence County, the daughter of Archie James and Beulah Mae (Smith) Green. She married Russell Sanders on Feb. 24, 1951 in Lawrence County.

She retired as head cook for Flora Unit #35 School District after 16 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Flora, United Methodist Women, and Clay County Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, sewing and quilting.

Survivors include her husband, Russell Sanders of Flora; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Lynn Pourchot of Lake Fork, and Janet and Dana Franklin of Flora; seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Mable Worstell, Mae Fisher, and Martha Heath, all of Bridgeport, Florence and Robert Doan of Olney, Frances Hedge of Brookhaven, Miss., Wilma and Harley Brown of Lawrenceville, and Margie and Jim Kilpatrick of Celina, Texas; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 4, at Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with the Rev. Omer Jones and Rev. Doyle Williams officiating.

Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Flora. Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church.
