MRS. MARTHA BATES Of CHARLESTON IS DEAD Special to the Journal Gazette, Charleston, Ill, June 8. Mrs. Martha Bates, 77, resident of Charleston 44 years, died today ate the home of a daughter, Mrs. Harry Grooms. Mrs. Bates husband, George Bates, died about 43 years ago. She leaves five children, Ervin Bates of Centralia, Frank Bates of Great Bend, Kan., Mrs. Estella Swisher, Mrs. Frank Thrall and Mrs. Grooms, all of Charleston. Mrs. Berry Fulk of Chicago, formerly of Mattoon, is a sister, and J. W. Alexander of Charleston is a brother.
