Funeral Service for Mary F. McKinley, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 at the Owens & Brumley Funeral Home Chapel with Chad Stubblefield officiating. Burial will be in the Dean Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Ms. McKinley died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018 in Burleson, after a brief battle with cancer.
Mary was born Feb. 23, 1939 to William Marshall and Julia Ann (Gill) Comstock in Thornberry. She attended Thornberry School and graduated in 1957 from Petrolia High School.
She married Darrold Lott McKinley Aug. 24, 1957 at Southside Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. Together they worked the family business McKinley Poultry & Egg while also operating a vegetable farm. In 1974, Mary went to work for Wichita Cigar and Tobacco which later became Grocery Supply. After it closed she went to work at Tranter until her retirement in 2004.
She was a member of Lakeside City Baptist Church. Mary spent many years teaching the pre-K and kindergarten age students Sunday school at Southside Baptist Church, Thornberry Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Dean. She wrote many children’s songs and found clever crafts to keep the children engaged.
She was preceded in death by her first husband in 2002; a daughter, Tressa Ann McKinley in 1997; three sisters, Dorothy, Bettye and Ann; and three brothers, Glen, Billy and Vernon.
Mary married Walt Johnston Feb. 11, 2006. They enjoyed volunteering and traveling, especially going to Bluegrass Festivals. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile. He preceded her in death December 2017.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeannee Jones and husband Jeff of Burleson and Sheila Tucker and husband Lonnie of Dean; brother, David Comstock and wife Irene of Thornberry; granddaughters, Daryl Garcia and Stevie Goodwin; grandsons, Lance Tucker and Lonnie Don Tucker; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Thurs. Sept. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home, 1317 9th St. Wichita Falls, TX.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dean Cemetery Fund, 7241 St. Hwy 79 N, Wichita Falls, TX 76305.
