Determined to fly at an early age, she graduated from Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas in 1995 and pursued aviation at Louisiana Tech University. Katie was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, Alpha Eta Rho Aviation Fraternity and flight team. Katie was awarded the Outstanding Woman Student award at Louisiana Tech. After graduation, Katie taught flight school at Louisiana Tech before being hired at Air Midwest.
