Mary E. Butler was the daughter of William and Harriet N. Barber and was born at West Pittston, Pa., 38 years ago. Her father died several years ago. Mrs. Barber was a devoted attendant on her daughter during her long illness. Both parents were of New England birth, and Mrs. Barber is a cousin of the late Ralph Waldo Emerson. A brother of Mrs. Butler is Col. A. P. Barber of Pittston, an officer of some distinction during the war and subsequently Attorney General of Pennsylvania. In 1871 Mr. and Mrs. Butler were married and soon after made Buffalo their home. Four children were born to them, of whom two are living-a daughter, Ada Deen, aged 14, and a son, Edward H., Jr., aged 10. Mrs. Butler was an earnest Christian, and for
years was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
The funeral services will be held at the family home, 429 Linwood avenue, at 4 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. Dr. Mott of Westminster Church officiating, and the burial will be at the convenience of the family. The body will be interred in the cemetery plot at Wyoming, Ра., near Pittston, belonging to Mrs. Butler's family, where her two children are laid beside her brother and father.
