The death of General John Sullivan Wood renders vacant the lucrative post of Governor of the Tower. Gen Wood served in the 21st Light Dragoons and 8th Hussars, and was for some time on the staff in the East Indies. He became a General in January 1837.

He was made Major in the 21st Light Drag. 1795; Lieut.-Col. in the army 1796; in the 8th drag. 1808; colonel in the army 1805; Major-General 1810. When holding that rank he was for some time on the staff in the East Indies, and was actively employed in the Nepual war. He became Lieut.-General 1819, and General 1837.

SHE WAS BORN IN DUBLIN IN 1792.
MARRIED AT CAWNPORE IN THE EAST INDIES
IN 1809 AT THE AGE OF 16: AND AFTER HAVING
SHARED WITH HER HUSBAND THE TRIALS AND
DIFFICULTIES OF A MILITARY LIFE RETIRED WITH
A NUMEROUS OFFSPRING TO THIS CITY WHERE
SHE DIED ON THE 12TH OF JANRY 1850 AT THE
AGED OF 57.
THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED BY HER
SORROWING HUSBAND & CHILDREN, IN TESTIMONY
OF THE LOVE AND RESPECT FOR HER ENDEARING
VIRTUES, & CHRISTIAN CHARACTER.
THOUGH GRIEVING IN THE REMEMBRANCE
OF THE MANY YEARS OF HAPPINESS.
