Gentleman's Magazine (FIBIS):
The death of General John Sullivan Wood renders vacant the lucrative post of Governor of the Tower. Gen Wood served in the 21st Light Dragoons and 8th Hussars, and was for some time on the staff in the East Indies. He became a General in January 1837.

At Bath, aged 84, General John Sullivan Wood, Lieutenant of the Tower of London. He was made Major in the 21st Light Drag. 1795; Lieut.-Col. in the army 1796; in the 8th drag. 1808; colonel in the army 1805; Major-General 1810. When holding that rank he was for some time on the staff in the East Indies, and was actively employed in the Nepual war. He became Lieut.-General 1819, and General 1837.

OF LT GENL WILLIATS & AND HIS WIFE ANNE ST LEGER.
SHE WAS BORN IN DUBLIN IN 1792.
MARRIED AT CAWNPORE IN THE EAST INDIES
IN 1809 AT THE AGE OF 16: AND AFTER HAVING
SHARED WITH HER HUSBAND THE TRIALS AND
DIFFICULTIES OF A MILITARY LIFE RETIRED WITH
A NUMEROUS OFFSPRING TO THIS CITY WHERE
SHE DIED ON THE 12TH OF JANRY 1850 AT THE
AGED OF 57.
THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED BY HER
SORROWING HUSBAND & CHILDREN, IN TESTIMONY
OF THE LOVE AND RESPECT FOR HER ENDEARING
VIRTUES, & CHRISTIAN CHARACTER.
THOUGH GRIEVING IN THE REMEMBRANCE
OF THE MANY YEARS OF HAPPINESS.
WHICH TO THEM ARE TERMINATED BY
HER DEATH THEY ARE COMFORTED
BY THE ASSURED HOPE THAT
THROUGH THE MERITS OF CHRIST
ON WHOM SHE FIRMLY DEPENDED AS HER
ONLY SAVIOUR SHE HAS ENTERED INTO

BY BEING APPOINTED TO THE
HONORABLE POST. OF LIEUTENANT
OF THE TOWER OF LONDON
HE WAS A FAITHFUL FRIEND.
AND AFFECTIONATE HUSBAND. AND
A TENDER FATHER.
HE DIED ON 3RD OF JULY 1851:
AGE 84. HUMBLY TRUSTING TO HIS
REDEEMER FOR PARDON AND ACCEPTANCE.
HIS AFFECTIONATE AND SORROWING
CHILDREN THUS BEREAVED WITHIN A
SHORT PERIOD OF BOTH THEIR BELOVED
PARENTS ARE CHEERED BY THE HOPE THAT
AS JESUS DIED AND ROSE AGAIN. EVEN
SO THEM ALSO THAT SLEEP IN JESUS
WILL GOD BRING WITH HIM.
