Found in the Boston Globe 13 Apr 1964: John T. O'Dea, 85, former dupty superintendent in charge of the Boston police traffic division, died today at his home, 34 May st., Jamaica Plain. He retired in 1943 after nearly 40 years of service with the police department. A native of Boston, Mr. O'Dea was appointed a reserve officer in 1904 and became a regular patrolman the following year. He was promoted to sergeant in 1914, to lieutenant in 1926 and to captain in 1936. While a captain, he was placed in charge of the traffic bureau on Milk st. In 1937, he was raised to the rank of deputy superintendent. He leaves a son, John Jr., former Boston street commissioner; a daughter, Kathleen, clerk of the Bankruptcy Division, U. S. Courts in Boston, and a sister, Mrs. Francis Hooker of Brookline. A solemn requiem Mass will be sung at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Jamaica Plain. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury.∼Deputy Chief Superintendent of the Boston Police Department.
