John E. Corman, 87, of Danville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born Jan. 27, 1931, in Danville, the son of the late John R. and Helen A. Bressler Corman.
He graduated from Danville High School in 1948. He furthered his education at Dickinson College graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Education in 1952, and a master’s degree from Bucknell University in 1955.
John was well-known by his students as a dedicated American History teacher, which included Problems of Democracy. He taught in the Watsontown School District from 1953-1958. Following this, he continued as a History teacher in the Warrior Run School District from 1958-1999. While there, he served as a varsity basketball coach from 1958-1960 and then as the athletic director for 14 years from 1960-1973. He thoroughly enjoyed golfing. John’s greatest fulfillment in life was his teaching career.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Danville since April 14, 1941, serving as a Trustee for two terms; a member of Frosty Valley Country Club since 1962; and served for 36 years on the Danville Municipal Authority from 1979-2014.
John is survived by one brother, William Corman, and his wife, Alice, of Meadowbrook. Also surviving is one niece, Jeanne Corman of Wilmington, Del., and two nephews: Richard Corman of Ontario, Canada, and John Corman of Harleysville.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Danville, 12 Brookside Drive, Danville (off 642 East), with his pastor, the Rev. Dawes J. Dunham, officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville. Friends will be received from 10–10:45 a.m.
