He retired from the Dravo Corporation where he worked as dredge engineer on the Ohio River. Gerald served his country in the South Pacific with the US Navy during WW II, attaining a Victory Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific 4 stars, and American Area Philippine Liberation 2 stars. He was a Protestant by faith and a member of the Wellsville American Legion Post #70.
Passing on before him, in addition to his parents, were his wife, Velma McDade, and his daughter, Zelda Sue McDade who died at birth.
Gerald leaves his loving family, including his daughter and her husband; his son; his two sisters; his brother; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will celebrate Gerald's life at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, WV; on Monday, September 24, at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell where the Navy Honor Guard and Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will give full military honors. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-6 p.m.
