OBITUARY
Circleville Herald, Circleville, Ohio, Saturday, 22 Sep 2018

Ruth Virginia (Canter) Jackson, 97, of Circleville, born in Pickaway Township, Pickaway County, Ohio, on January 9, 1921 to Cora Trilby (Congrove) Canter and Roy B. Canter, died peacefully on Saturday, August 4, 2018.

She grew up on a farm helping to milk the cows, bring in the hay, and many other farm chores. Growing up in the Depression taught her to be both hardworking and frugal.

She met the love of her life, Albert Edward Jackson, Jr. at a USO dance. They were married on February 10, 1944 just before Albert was sent overseas to serve his country during World War II. She saved every letter he wrote during that time. When he returned, they lived in Delaware for six years until the birth of their second child and then moved to Kingston, Ohio, where her family lived. Eventually they moved to Circleville where they spent the rest of their lives. They enjoyed 73 years together.

Ruth was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting and loved all sports. She stayed home to raise her children until they were both in school. She was employed at the Children's Shop and the Deb Shop for many years until it closed. She loved working there especially during Pumpkin Show when it was in the middle of all the action and parades. Ruth was also an election worker in Circleville for over 40 years and a devoted Republican.
She is survived by her two daughters, Teresa (Jackson) Reynolds and her husband Jerry of Morehead City, NC, and Denise (Jackson) Samolchuk and her husband James of Manchester by-the-Sea, MA. She also has three granddaughters, Talisha DeSantis and her husband Michael of Newport, NC, Chris Kimbro and her husband Duncan and Tina Boahn and her husband Charles both of Morehead City, NC. She will also be missed by her six great grandchildren, Krista Ethridge and her husband Nick of Newport, NC, Dustin and Daniel Boahn, Faith and Ruthie Kimbro of Morehead City, NC, and Dakota DeSantis of Newport, NC and three great great grandchildren Joseph Nelson and Laylah and Nicholas Etheridge of Newport, NC. She was predeceased by her parents, Trilby and Roy Canter, three sisters, Alice and Julia Canter and Mary (Canter) Gilbert, a brother, William Canter and a grandson, Michael Edward Wells.

A graveside memorial service is planned for Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Kingston. Arrangements have been entrusted to the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston. Condolences can be made on Ruth's online quest registry at www.hillfhkingston.com.
