Manitowoc - Grace A. Markwardt, age 84, a Manitowoc resident, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Grace was born on March 23, 1934 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Raymond and Anne (Engeldinger) Harlow. She was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1952. On March 2, 1957 she married Donald C. Markwardt at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Prior to marriage, she was employed as a local dental assistant. Grace was a leader of the Manitowoc County Rural Youth Association, a member of the Manitowoc Yacht Club Association, the Mary Martha Circle-First Lutheran, the Rahr West Museum, the Capitol Civic Center, and an active member of First Lutheran Church. She was very active with the organization of her class of 1952 reunions. Grace had a love for music, gardening, and was a great storyteller. She had a good sense of humor with a quick wit and was self-sacrificing for her family and community. Grace also had a gift for conversation.

She is survived by her husband: Donald Markwardt; four daughters and three sons-in-law: Deborah and Robert Bonk, Manitowoc, Joan Fritz, Billings, MT, Nancy and Rev. Paul Rettew, South Carolina, Sarah and Mark Rysticken, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Jeffrey and Racheal Markwardt, Green Bay; two grandsons: Isaac and Erik Fritz; two granddaughters: Emma and Kathryn Rysticken; and two sisters and one brother-in-law: Rita and Fritz Greenwald, Springfield, IL, Inez McDermott, Manitowoc. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers-in-law: Mary Tuesburg, Jean and Matt Kasberger, Benita Ewald, Eileen and Larry Neuser, Joe McDermott; and one brother and sister-in-law: Patrick and Nancy Harlow.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Roald Harswick with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in Grace's name.
