Mr. Joseph Ray Douthit, 77, of Jamestown, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Born March 3, 1941, in Nantahala, Ray was the son of the late John and Mary Morgan Douthit. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Jane Douthit, Samuel Douthit, Meri Beth Douthit, Lola Mae Roland, Bonnie McMahan and Margie King. Ray was a member of Bales Wesleyan Church and was retired from Valspar. When his health allowed, he enjoyed working with his hands, whether it was building bird houses or tending to his garden. He was particularly fond of his grand-dogs and all animals.
Ray is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Hill Douthit; three children, Karen Willard, of Jamestown, Joey Douthit, of High Point, and Jessica Douthit, of Thomasville; four grandchildren, Heather Guffey, Dustin Willard, Stephen Bodenheimer, and Miracle Norris; and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Charles Douthit, of Jamestown, and Cecil Douthit and wife, Norma, of Topton; a sister, Linda Wilson and husband, Steve, of Oak Island; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25th, 2018, at Bales Wesleyan Church, in Jamestown, officiated by Rev. Carl Pulliam. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night, Sept. 24th, from 6 until 8 at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
