Thomas was born in the West Isles the son of Samuel Batson and wife Mary Neal who came from NH to that place and then settled in Dennysville. He had siblings including Edward C. and Abigail (Batson) Dudley and Mary Jane (Batson) McCarlie who also settled in Dennysville.

Thomas married Sabina J. Dean whose father came from NB. They had children born after they moved to Dennysville including Abigail N., Thomas C Jr., Silas L., Theodore L., (Sabina) Jane, and Ada M. She had 8 children in all, 4 of whom were living in 1900 - Abigail, Thomas who resided together, Jane and Ada who resided togther.

Thomas was a farmer and was in the census in Dennysville from 1850-1900. For a time the family resided on Charlotte Road.
