SALEM: Jane L. Less, 86, of 12621 Washingtonville Road, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday at her home.
Mrs. Less was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Leetonia, a daughter of Edward G. and Doris (Andler) Sauerwein and had lived in this area all of her life.
A homemaker and mother, Jane assisted her husband, Francis in the operation of the Less and Less Farm in Greenford for many years.
She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana and St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Leetonia. She served on the board of the Greenford Friends of the Library and was a member of the LCBA Branch #909. For many years she was active in the Greenford Athletic Boosters and the Greenford PTA and was a member of ?The Gravel Gerties.?
Jane was a frequent guest on the Marjorie Mariner Show and had been a contestant in the Mrs. Ohio Show. An avid cook and baker, she won the Ohio Apple Pie Baking Contest. She served on the Canfield Fair Committee of the Home and Arts Building and was chairperson for two years. She was also a member of the Mahoning County and Green Township Farm Bureau and had served as at 4-H advisor.
Her husband, Francis G. Less, whom she married Oct. 19, 1940, died June 28, 2002.
She is survived by four daughters, Susan (William) Phillips of Canfield, Ann (Keith) Bossard of Columbus, Lisa (John) Crider of Marquette, Mich., and Elaine Less of Greenford; three sons, William (Nancy) Less, Michael Less, and George (Penny) Less, all of Greenford; a sister, Roma (John) Miller of Massillon; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A son, Edward Less, and a sister, Billy Jo Shambaugh, are also deceased.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana with the Rev. Thomas G. Ziegler officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Leetonia.
Friends may call at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and at the church one half hour prior to the Mass on Monday.
