Carl Hartz, 78

Carl Almond Hartz, 78, of Post Falls, entered into rest Nov. 30, 2005. Carl
was a loving husband and father.

Carl was born in Cavalier, N.D., on June 4, 1927. Carl was raised on the
family farm outside of Caliver. His family moved to Kennewick, Wash., in 1943.

Carl served his country for more than 30 years in the United States Navy.
During his career, he did exploration work with Admiral Byrd in the Antarctic,
tours in World War II, Korea and Vietnam wars, and worked as a master diver,
explosive ordinance disposal and the seabees.

After retiring from the Navy, he settled in the Philippines, consulted with
the Navy on special projects, and earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture
from WLAC University in the Philippines. He and his family moved back to the
states to settle in Post Falls in 1989.

Carl was member of the American Legion and the Fleet Reserves Association.

He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Amy; children, Richard Gana,
Carole McCullough, Howard Hartz, Angel Erickson, Carl "Al" Hartz Jr., Joyce
Hartz and Anna Hartz; brothers and sister, Earl Hartz, Russell Hartz and Jill
Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lillian and Alfred Hartz
and sister and brother Irene Hluboky and Lyle Hartz.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. George's Catholic
Church in Post Falls, followed by luncheon in the church hall.
