Walter is the fourth known child of Louisa Biddlecome and Walter G. Pawley. His surname was interchangeable with Pauley, Polly and Polley on various census and documents. Walter Jr. Married Nancy C. Gilreath in Martin County, IN, on 29 Nov 1857.
The 1900 census reflects six children were born into the marriage but only three survived at that time. Three know children from the 1880 census are: Tabitha J., Susan and John.

ST. BERNICE ~ Mr. Walter Pauley died at his home Thursday morning, Feb. 6, 1908. He is one of the oldest citizens, his age being 74 years, 4 months. He was a christian man and loved by all who knew him. Funeral was held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. Grimes of Clinton Christian church. Burial in Sugar Grove cemetery.
