Ted was born and raised in Winnipeg and graduated from Elmwood High School followed by United College in 1966. In 1970 he became a Chartered Accountant with Touche Ross and had an impressive career. Leaving Touche Ross he became involved in various business ventures either on his own or in partnerships, followed by a range of public and private sector organizations. In 2013 he retired from the Province of Manitoba as Director of Finance for the Vital Statistics Agency. Following retirement, Roma and Ted moved to Leduc, Alberta.
In his teens, Ted played and observed various sports, but excelled at hockey. Although drafted for the Boston Bruins farm team at 17, he chose higher education instead. He gave back to the game by coaching hockey at Valley Gardens Community Club in later years.
