(1926 - 2016)
William (Bill) A. Peterson, age 89, a Manitowoc resident, died on Saturday morning July, 30, 2016 in Manitowoc.
Bill was born in Frankfort, MI on October 12, 1926 son of the late Orla and Frances (Mauck) Peterson. He spent many formative years in Benzonia, MI. As a young man Bill was employed with Ann Arbor Railroad Carferries as a crew hand on the carferry, Wabash. At age 23 he married Joan Mahlock and began his employment with the A & P Company retiring with them at age 62 in Mason City, IA. His visionary renovation projects repurposing buildings, planted creative seeds and optimistic industriousness in many lakeshore family members still connected to Manitowoc.
Survivors include 5 daughters: Cathy (Denny) Alfson, Manitowoc, WI; Debi Stoune, New Plymouth, ID; Susie Gospodarek, Manitowoc, WI; Lori Peterson, Portland, OR; Amy (Dave) Cherry, Columbus, WI; and, one son: Jeff (Julie) Peterson, DePere, WI; one brother: Robert Peterson; one brother-in-law: Jasper Mineo; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by Joan, the mother of his children; a daughter: Beth Peterson; 3 sisters: Dorothy Mendenhall, Harriet Mineo, & Annabelle Singer; and, one son-in-law: Larry Stoune.
A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Following the service Bill's cremated remains will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
