Died as the result of a gunshot wound inflicted by one of his comrades in Co. I, 14th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, while encamped near Rolla, Phelps County, Missouri, soon after he enlisted as a private for the Civil War. He is buried in the cemetery at the east end of Waverly, Morgan County, Illinois, next to his parents and brother Myron S. Gold, who is also a veteran of the Civil War.
