James William Bottenfield
A good, kind, hardworking man left this earth on September 30, 2018. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation on Thursday, October 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. and the funeral service on Friday, October 5 at 12:00 p.m.

Jim was born October 9, 1956 to Kathleen (Moorehead) and James Bottenfield in Sheldon, IA. The family later moved to West Des Moines where Jim graduated from Valley High School and worked for 35 years with the IBEW Local #499 as a Journeymen Lineman and later as a Substation Electrician Foreman. Jim worked many electrical assignments at the Dallas County Fair Grounds – so much so that he became an avid volunteer and was elected to the Dallas County Fair Board for a term.

Jim was very adventurous and enjoyed many activities with family and friends. They owned horses and rode trails from Wyoming to Oklahoma; boating at Saylorville, Rathbun and Lake of the Ozarks; riding their Harley across the country; and traveling to beach destinations such as the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, Hawaii, and Anna Maria Island in Florida. Jim also volunteered for Hope Ministries, was a member of West Des Moines Christian Church, and most of all – loved time spent with his family.

Jim was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 7 years ago and died at Mercy Hospice in Johnston after a short but hard battle with cancer. During this time, Jim’s relationship with Jesus brought him great comfort. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 39 years, Deanne; children, Nick, Justin (Pader), and Jessica (James) Bottenfield-Biehn; grandchildren, Quinn, Milo, Jonas, Ezra and Mavis; and sisters, Karol Mauss and Darcy Miller. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Elva and Monte Moorehead, and William and Lena Bottenfield.
