He was a Jewish Dutch politician, a member of the Dutch parliament for the Liberal Democratic Association and alderman for finance in Rotterdam in the interwar period . He obtained his doctorate cum laude at the University of Leiden in law in 1886. He then became a lawyer and attorney in Rotterdam. As a member of the Liberal Union , he was elected to the City Council of Rotterdam in 1899, where he would take up his seat until his death in 1928. In 1901 he moved to the Liberal Democratic Union . From 1913 to 1918, he was a member of the Provincial States, and from 1916 to 1923, he was alderman in Rotterdam, first of finance, later he got the portfolio of companies. After his alderman, he returned as chairman of the board. In 1925 the voting behavior of the VDB municipal council group he led to a retirement pension proposal led to the resignation of alderman Van der Hoeven. In 1925, Van Aalten was elected to the House of Representatives. There he mainly spoke about justice issues, home affairs, labor, traffic and PTT.
