Born Wanda Ethel Wigington in 1925 to Nora Bailey and C.C. Wigington of Powell, Wanda married LeeRoy Johnson of Fyffe in 1943. The young couple made Tenbroeck community their home. They raised four kids and shared sixty-seven years together. LeeRoy preceded her in death in 2011.
Wanda enjoyed homemaking, farm life, and work life. She retired from Sola Electric in Fort Payne. She had more talents than most and what she learned, she tried to teach. Her life was an example of kindness and generosity. She loved gardening, arranging flowers, and especially sharing her bouquets and plants. She loved her neighbors, Home Demonstration Club functions, square dancing and Red Cross volunteer missions with LeeRoy. Her church family was important. She served as principal of Vacation Bible School more years than folks can count. In addition, there were Sunday School classes, WMU activities and sharing anything she had. Survey local cooks within fifty miles and you will find a recipe that Wanda Johnson had shared.
