CAMERON— SPURDLE.
A quiet but pretty wedding was conducted at the residence of the bride's parents, Ridgway Street, by the Very Rev. Dean Kirk, this afternoon, when Mr Hugh Cameron (youngest son of Mr A. Cameron, of Mangahoi) was united ill the bonds of holy wedlock to Miss Helen Jane (Nelly) Spurdle, eldest daughter of our respected fellow townsman, Mr F. M. Spurdle. The bride was attired in a handsome cream cashmere, trimmed with figured silk, chiffon, and ribbons. She also wore a wreath of orange blossoms and veil, and a massive gold band bracelet, the latter the gift of the bridegroom. Three bridesmaids were in attendance — Misses Maggie and Katie Spurdle (sisters of the bride), dressed in cream silk with chiffon trimmings, and Miss Cameron (sister of the bridegroom), who wore a white and green striped costume, trimmed with lace and ribbons. The bride and her maids carried bouquets of the beautiful clematis, presented by a friend, and the three latter wore gold bands, suitably engraved, presents from the bridegroom. Tho best man was in the person of Mr W. L. Young, and the groomsmen were Mr L. Spurdle and J. Morton. After the ceremony the wedding breakfast was partaken of and the health of the bride and bridegroom honoured in the usual way. The young people were the recipients of numerous and costly wedding presents, including a valuable piano, from the bridegroom's mother, and a handsome tea set from the employees of the Wanganui Sash and Door Factory. In addition to the presents from Wanganui friends, there were many from Halcombe, including the silver serviette rings and vases presented to the bride on the eve of her marriage by the Halcombe school children, and a handsome clock from the minister and members of the Primitive Methodist Church at Halcombe, in recognition of the bride's service as organist. Mr and Mrs Cameron leave by the afternoon train for their future home at Glenmore, Turakina. (Wanganui Chronicle, Sept. 7, 1899)
