LOUIS TAFT COPPLE Entered Into Eternal Rest Sunday, May 8, 1983
Louis Taft Copple of Fromberg, age 74, died Sunday morning in Carbon County Memorial Hospital in Red Lodge. Louis was born in Sedan, Kansas, October 18, 1908 the son of John and Elizabeth Copple. Louis was a cowboy who followed the rodeo circuit and had worked on ranches for many years. He helped build the Ft. Peck dam. He had also worked as a deputy sheriff in northern Montana and had worked as a policeman for the Bridger - Fromberg area. He had also been the Police Judge in Fromberg in the early 70's. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and prospecting.
Louis married Mary Joslin, March 28, 1967 in Sparks, Nevada. Louis is survived by his wife of Fromberg; two sons, Kristopher and Johnathan both of Fromberg; two sisters, Alta Hoke of Roundup and Joyce Olson of Malta; also by numerous nephews and nieces. Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, May 10 at the Belfry Cemetery. Dahl Funeral Chapel was in charge of the funeral arrangements. Pallbearers were John Smith, Dick Swan, Leslie Forstner, Tony Brilz, Ross Brown and Ben Brown.

In a letter written by Zoe Copple, Louis' aunt, on 19 Nov 1967 to Louis and Mary & boys:
'Before, I forget it, Louis was born on the old home place (my fathers home) only he had passed on a few months before [Zoe's father was William Henry Copple born 25 Mar 1843 and died 26 Feb 1908.]. That is in Kans, and was 3 miles west of Sedan, Chautauqua County. And his middle name is Taft, named after President Wm. Howard Taft, & the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. And the Louis was after one of our neighbors boys...... Grandma Copple [Ida Vanostin Copple] helped to bring Louis into the world. Dr. was late in getting there.'
