Richard Earle Askins was the son of Hallie Hollowell and Jamie H. Askins.

He married first Kitty (?), who died before 2018.

He married second Gail M. (?).

Richard Earle Askins, AP, was a senior member of the Goldsboro (NC) Power Squadron, United States Power Squadrons. He was serving as a Lt/C (Lieutenant Commander) at the time of his death.

Aug. 19, 1949-March 8, 2018

Richard Earle Askins, 68, died early Thursday morning at his home.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Jamie H. Askins and Hallie Hollowell Askins.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Kitty Askins.

Richard was a certified public accountant and a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, where he served as the longtime treasurer.

He was a board member emeritus of the Boys and Girls Club and a member of Goldsboro Power Squadron.

A service to celebrate Richard's life will be held Monday at noon at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Glenn Phillips Jr. officiating.

Family members will greet friends Monday at 11 a.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

A private burial was held.

Richard is survived by his wife, Gail M. Askins; two sons, Jamie B. Askins and wife, Jennifer, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Jason T. Askins and wife, Maren of Plymouth, Minn.; a brother, David Askins and wife, Diana; and three grandchildren, Carter Askins, Cameron Askins and Hudson Askins.

Memorial gifts may be directed to First Baptist Church, 125 S. John St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
