Anna Laura Lewis, 93, of Alexander died at 4:25 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014, at White Hall Nursing Home. Laura was born on May 31, 1921, in Axtel, Kentucky, the daughter of Jesse and Emma Wheatley Lewis. She married Oval L. Lewis on April 10, 1947, in Axtel, and he preceded her in death in September 2010.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kenneth Lewis; two brothers, Tom and Robert Lewis; and one grandson, Derek Evans.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary (companion, Francis Retherford) Evans of Carrollton and Lola Lancaster of Beardstown; one daughter-in-law, Sue Lewis of New Berlin; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Laura was an avid needleworker, enjoying both quilting and crocheting.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Old Route 36, Alexander, with Father Kevin Laughery as celebrant. Burial will follow at Pleasant Plains Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral Mass on Tuesday. McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home in New Berlin is in charge of arrangements.
