LIN FENG ADAMS, of Memphis, passed away May 12, 2007 after a two-month struggle with complications due to diabetes. Born Liu Lin Feng in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, to Liu Zuo Loon (who was the Governor of province) and Liu Wu Bao Lan, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Adams. She is survived by her brother, Liu Li Quin; daughter, Della Adams; son, Louis Adams; grandson, Alexander Q. Maclin; and granddaughter, Jessica M. Adams. Lin earned a Master's degree in Russian Literature from Wuhan University. She was a professor of Russian language at Wuhan Polytechnic Institute. She met Clarence C. Adams while he was attending college at Wuhan University. They were married in 1958 and enjoyed a loving and devoted marriage for 42 years until his passing in 1999. She left China, her home and came to America in 1966. Speaking no English at the beginning she, along with her husband, strived very hard to make a good life for their two children. She was one of first teachers in the local area Head Start program. She also taught physical education in the Memphis City School system. Later, she became a successful restaurateur for over 30 years. She co-owned with her husband several establishments, the best known of which was "The Chop Suey House" chain. She retired from the business in 2000. Parts of her life can be seen in the recently released documentary produced by the National Film Board of Canada, "They Chose China". The international award winning documentary has been shown on the Discovery History channel. More on her and her husband's life can be seen in the upcoming June 2007 book release of "An American Dream", published by University of Massachusetts Press. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 18 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19 at 2 p.m. at the same location. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the services.
