Robert Read died peacefully Friday in Raleigh, NC, with his family nearby. Formerly from Yorktown Heights, NY, Bob had recently relocated to Raleigh to be with his devoted wife, Margaret A. Read, also of Yorktown Heights.

Bob enjoyed his retirement from a career as a labor relations lawyer for US Steel in New York and Lone Star Cement in Greenwich, CT. A veteran of World War II, Bob received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal for his service as a bombardier in the Pacific with the 90th Bomber group, the "Jolly Rogers". He will always be remembered by those close to him for his unbending patriotism, his stories and songs of Australia and his love of the game of golf.

In addition to his wife, Margaret, Bob is survived by their four daughters and sons-in-law, Meg and David Shouse of Apex, NC, Robin and Frank Read-Giase of New Brunswick, NJ, Kathleen and George McDaniel of Raleigh, NC and Pam and David Boyd of Cold Spring, NY. In addition to a half brother, Alan Read of Saratoga Springs, Bob is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Parker and Forrest Shouse; Courtney, Jackie, Frankie, and Travis Read-Giase, Katie, Sarah and Guy McDaniel; and Ian, Emily, Becky, and Jill Boyd.

A memorial service will be held at Cary Presbyterian Church, 614 Griffis Street, Cary, NC. Brown-Wynne Funeral Home of Cary, NC is in charge of arrangements.
