MRS. LUCY C. BLACKWELL BASS, daughter of Hamlin and Agness Blackwell was born in Palestine, Ind., now Bedford, March 17, 1855, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles F. Stewart, in Palestine, Ill, Dec. 17, 1908.

She united in marriage with Austin Bass September 1, 1874.

She became a member of the Presbyterian church of Mitchell, Ind., at the age of 14, and had since lived a consistent Christian life. As a friend and neighbor she was endeared to a large circle. Most of her contemporaries of youth have passed away, but her genial, happy nature won her friends among all ages, the young, those of middle age, and advanced years, alike found pleasure in her society. Her superior intelligence, retentive memory, and fine conversational powers, made her a most interesting companion.

Her many friends realize with sadness that they can never more enjoy a pleasant and profitable hour with Mrs. Bass. But her bright example of all that wife, mother, friend and Christian should be is left as a precious memory to those who were associated with her in life.

She leaves a husband, A. B. Bass, of St. Louis; three daughters, Mrs. Otto O'Dell of St. Louis, Mrs. C. F. Stewart of Palestine, Ill., Mrs. Charles Pucell of Portland, Ore. Mildred (???)
