She was born April 20, 1928, at the family home in Mayo. Her grandfather cleared the land and built four houses. Her life was documented in her daughter's book, "The History of Mayo, Maryland."
Mrs. Parris obtained her GED at age 50. She worked as a cashier at the Mayo Food Center from 1965 to 1985 ad then was a cook at Hardee's restaurant, retiring at age 66.
Considered an active vibrant woman, she was always doing for others, her family said. She was a member of Ladies of American Legion Post 226 in Mayo and enjoyed embroidery, puzzles, crabbing, birding, wine making, John Wayne films and westerns, reading and baseball, especially the New York Yankees.
Her husband, Ervan Quade, died in 1979. In 1980 she married William Parris who died in 1988. She was the mother of the late Teresa Ann Brown.
Surviving are one daughter, Caroline Britt Mullins of Riva; one sister, Doris Gates of Silver Spring; and one grandchild.
