Robert W. Abrams of Brewerton, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 11, 2018 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, NY, almost one year to the day of the passing of his beloved wife, Anne. He was 91.

Bob was born in Roosevelt, NY. He enlisted in the Navy. He rose to the rank of petty officer radioman and was a naval aviator on the aircraft carrier Shangri-La. After leaving the war, Bob attended New England College where he was an All American lacrosse and football player. Soon after graduation he met his lovely wife Anne. His first job was at Republic Aviation as an engineer working on the F105. He then went to work for Fairchild and Hillar to build the F4 air frame for Grumman. He later went to General Dynamics to pioneer the use transistors in military fighter aircraft and trident submarines. After many years in the defense industry and considering his growing family, Bob left GD and went to work for Crouse Hinds. He retired at age 59 and spent the rest of his years traveling between Manasota Key, Florida and Syracuse, NY.

Bob was an avid Syracuse University sports fan, enjoyed playing golf, and loved spending time with his family.

To his plethora of grandchildren he was known as Pappy. Bob and Anne had a love that was truly something to behold--a love that even in the last years of their lives withstood the test of time. They taught everyone they met the true meaning of patience, acceptance, and unconditional love. Until both of their dying breaths, there was only love; for each other, for family, for friends, and for the simplicity in life. Bob was a gentle, kind man, genuinely loving and genuinely loved by everyone around him. They will both be severely missed by family and friends.

Bob is survived by two sons, Robert Abrams, Jr. of Syracuse and William (Brenda) Abrams of Manlius; and one daughter, Irene (Howard) Buchan of Manlius. Bob had seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Family and friends may call (in SU apparel if so desired) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 26 at Newell-Fay Manlius Chapel, 8171 Cazenovia Rd., Manlius. The funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fayetteville Cemetery.
