Inez Highfield was called to be with God on December 30, 2023, at 95 years old.
She was born May 1, 1928, named Evvie Inez Martin, in Cartersville, GA, but lived most of her life in Rome, GA. As a result of a stroke at 83 years old she resided at Renaissance Marquis Assisted Living for 12 years. In February 2023 she moved to Pooler, GA, to live with her daughter Patricia until her death on December 30.
Greeting her in Heaven was John Franklin Highfield, her husband of 28 years, who died in 1974. Her parents, Dewey and Gertrude Martin, were also there along with 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
Left to cherish fond memories are 3 brothers; her 2 daughters; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Inez worked at Celanese Manufacturing until the company's closure. She then traveled to Atlanta to become certified as a Certified Surgical Technician at Redmond Hospital until her retirement in 1994. Inez was a member of North Rome Church of God in Rome, where she served on the Board of Directors of the Women's Ministry. She was also a member of the "WOW" Sounds Single Ministry and Prime Times Senior Group. Inez is a life member of the "Order of the Eastern Star" and the Etowah Senior Recreation Center.
Her hobbies included dancing, gardening, reading and was always ready to travel! In 1996, Inez won the title of "Ms. Festaroma" of Floyd County and participated in the "Ms. Senior Georgia" pageant in 1997. She became a member of the Georgia Classic Club, also known as the "Dazzlin Dames," the group traveled performing at many social events and having a great time. Inez also danced with the "Silverado Line Dancer's."
Inez enjoyed life, but her first love was always serving God, and her family was next in line. We, her family members, will remember her daily and rejoice that she is in the presence of God with a new body.
Inez will be remembered for the love and friendship she gave to everyone. She is missed, but the memories of her will provide all that knew her comfort, knowing they were blessed to have been in her life.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Bert Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12pm until service time at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.
