William Hubert Kretsch, known as Bill, died Thursday, Oct. 11, at the age of 91, surrounded by his family.
Born and raised in Manitowoc, Bill served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. He worked at Manitowoc Public Utilities and retired after nearly 32 years. He married Betty Cherney on Nov. 6., 1955.
Bill will be forever in the hearts of family and of those whose lives he impacted. He is survived by his wife Betty of 63 years; his children and spouses Lee (Patty), Lu Ann (David), Lanny (Barb), and Larry (Pam); 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hubert and Gertrude Kretsch; brothers Robert and Hubert; grandson, Ramsey; and foster daughter, Deborah Baskin.
A natural inventor, Bill could be found in his workshop at home or shed at the lake, building can crushers and finding creative ways to repurpose just about any materials in front of him. He also loved camping, traveling, and music.
A memorial service for Bill was held Oct. 14 at Pfeffer Funeral Home, with Deacon Mike Dolezal officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff at River Woods Place for the care and compassion they showed to Bill during his stay, and for enduring his unique humor. Also, thanks to Heartland Hospice for the special care they gave Bill during his final days.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
