He was born in South Charleston, Ohio January 3, 1943, a son of the late Henry T. Sr. and Marie (Bush) Bateman.
On July 22, 1967 in Russells Point, Ohio, he married Mary Lou Stevenson and she preceded him in death March 7, 1999. George was also preceded in death by siblings Mildred Davis, Anna Lee Godwin, Wanda King, and John Bateman.
He is survived by a daughter, Chelyene Lynn (David) Price of Belle Center, Ohio; a son, Gregory Chase (Michelle) Bateman of Bellefontaine; grandchildren, Chanceler David Price, Ethan Tanner Price and Dalton Chase Bateman; a sister, Joyce Moore of Delaware, Ohio; a brother, Henry (Tina) Bateman Jr. of Sidney, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
George graduated in 1961 from Zanesfield-Monroe High School. He was a United States Army Veteran after serving in Vietnam. George worked in maintenance at Super Foods until retiring July 1, 1984. On March 12, 1984, he became the owner and operator of McClain’s Body Shop. George was a member of the American Legion Post #173, V.F.W. Post #1080, the Lakeview Am Vets, and Eagles of Bellefontaine #2166. All who knew George will miss him.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Bellefontaine with military rites performed by the Logan County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
The arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
