Sneaky Pie was named after the tiger cat in the Sneaky Pie Brown Mystery books. One chilly morning I opened my bedroom curtains to find him sleeping in the bushes below. He looked up at me and meowed. He was all skin and bones, his poor little mouth was crooked and bloody and we would later learn his back had been damaged and there was a BB pellet lodged in his spine. He walked slightly crooked and always seemed to be in pain. I later found out that a horrible neighbor bragged about hitting a cat in the face with a baseball bat.

Sneaky couldn’t hunt and he couldn’t eat. I sat on the ground and he crawled into my lap like a tiny kitten. I began feeding him soft foods and he waited every morning for me. I found a vet that would come to the house and I finally got Sneaky into the garage and he was treated for his missing teeth, his damaged body, and given tests and shots. He decided he loved us and he moved into the house. After being on the streets for months or years, Sneaky never liked any of our other cats and he had to have his own room at night to protect the others from his attacks.

Being mostly Siamese, he was a talker and you were lucky to get a word in some days! Sneaky was unbelievably affectionate, cuddly and loved to play chasing treats thrown in any direction. His little mews could turn into demanding howls, he made us laugh, he talked constantly, and he was absolutely beautiful. Everyone called him a Tiger with his stripes and intense stare. My warmest memory of him is how he loved sleeping in the wicker chair in front of a bright sunny window.

Sneaky loved dogs and would cuddle and sleep with our dogs for hours. He hated any other cat and would stalk and attack a cat in a second. This made life very difficult and lots of extra work, but he was worth it.

Sneaky had four operations for cancer on his torso and rib cage, he went through months of chemo, pills and more pills. He survived all those operations like a champ and had 16 good solid years with us. In the end, his hard life and age were brought down by bone cancer that grew on his skull. We all decided the operation would be too invasive and he survived two more years.

Throughout it all, all he wanted to do was cuddle and sleep on his dad’s lap. After his dad’s last business trip, Sneaky painfully ran across the room crying when his dad walked in. He had missed him and it wasn’t until dad returned that Sneaky began eating and drinking again.

A sweet, loving cat who should never have been on the streets. We think he was an amazing cat and were lucky to have shared his life.

It’s always hard to believe a loved pet is gone and Sneaky is missed beyond words.
