Mr. Joseph E. Bowman, 88, of Fairfield, PA passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 in the Gardens at Gettysburg where he had resided for the last year and a half. Born August 3, 1930 in Smithsburg, MD he was the son of the late Emory D. and Annie R. (Bowman) Bowman. He lived his early life in the Smithsburg area where he attended Smithsburg Schools. He and his late wife, Mrs. Helen L. (Hurley) Bowman were married December 27, 1952 in Smithsburg. Together they moved to their residence in Fairfield in 1965. Mrs. Bowman passed away October 22, 2010. Mr. Bowman was employed as a machine operator at Frick Company, Waynesboro, PA; Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing, Hagerstown, MD for two years; and then Arthur's Dairy, Waynesboro for 19 years. Prior to retiring in April, 1995 he was employed at Beck Manufacturing, Blue Ride Summit, PA. He was a Protestant by faith and a member of the National AARP. Mr. Bowman enjoyed hunting, spending time with his friends, and especially walking his Black Lab, Barney.

Mr. Bowman is survived by his daughter, Dixie Turner and her husband Richard of Fairfield and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Kline and a brother, Raymond Bowman.


Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Friday, November 2, 2018 in the Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro, PA with Pastor Eugene Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Fountaindale Union Cemetery, Fairfield, PA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Thursday evening in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Fountaindale Volunteer Fire Company, 1340 Old Waynesboro Road, Fairfield, PA 17320.
