Natheal Ballard of Delta, Colorado, died Oct. 25, 2018, at the age of 71.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at Garnet Mesa Baptist Church in Delta.
Interment will follow at Olathe Cemetery in Olathe, Colorado.
He was born on May 16, 1947, to Edna Mae and Arbie Adam Ballard in Montrose, Colorado. He grew up and went to school in Olathe.
He entered into the Army where he served in the artillery unit in Korea guarding the river be North Korea and South Korea. He served from Oct. 13, 1966 to Aug. 5, 1967 before he received a hardship honorable discharge when his brother Adam was killed in Vietnam. He returned home to help his mother raise his siblings.
He married Sonya Thornton in Cedaredge, Colorado, on Sept. 27, 1969. Shortly after marrying they moved to Springfield, Missouri, later returning to Olathe; where they raised six children.
He worked at Hotchkiss and Timber Sawmill before becoming a carpenter. He was a general contractor building homes all over the valley before retiring. He was also a farmer and raised cows.
Natheal is survived by his wife Sonya; six children and spoused: Nathan and Sheila Ballard; Tonya and Kevin Lee; Suzanne and Matthew Maestas; Frederick and Brenda Ballard; Stepheon and Darla Ballard; Lillian and Brian Pobirk; 23 grandchildren; one great-grandson; siblings: Eve and Duane McMurdy; Manuel and Kathy Ballard; John and Pam Ballard; Sarah and Bill Washington; Isaac and June Ballard; Paul and Melody Ballard; Esther and Lonnie Cain; Ruth Lucas; Onita Ballard; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arbie and Edna; his brother, Adam; and his sister, Martha.
The family suggests any memorial contributions made in Natheal’s name go to the Veteran Affairs Medical Center 2121 North Ave., Grand Junction, CO 81501.
