It is believed this replaces an older gravestone that had not been readable for 50 years or more but was readable in the family cemetery before that time as her name was known in the neighborhood for many years.
Some family trees give her birth date Dec. 15, 1808, thought to be from a family Bible, but the grave marker says 1810.
According to local folklore, "Ole Betsy Keese" haunts the graveyard and nearby woods and runs hunters out of the forest.
