Brandi was the joy of my life. Such a precious little baby girl. So very hard to say goodbye.

aka Brandi Whine Hoover Gracie Bunny Graham. Age 15Y 9M 1D

Birth mother, Baby Girl Bruce.

Most of the places Brandi traveled with us (or just me)…Arizona (Grand Canyon, Sedona, Meteor Crater, Winslow), Colorado (Denver), Illinois (no stops), Indiana (Fort Wayne), Iowa (Field of Dreams), Kansas (all over), Michigan (Kalamazoo), Minnesota (Moorhead), Missouri (all over), Montana (Devils Tower, Little Big Horn), Nebraska (Scott's Bluff, Chimney Rock, Lincoln), New Mexico (Galup), North Dakota (Fargo, Bismarck, Theodore Roosevelt National Park), Ohio (Toledo, Fort Meigs), Oklahoma (no stops), South Dakota (Badland's, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument), Tennessee (Johnson City, Jonesborough), Texas (Amarillo), Utah (Monument Valley), Wisconsin (Madison), and Wyoming (no stops).

She LOVED riding in the car, it didn't matter if it was fifteen minutes or for days and days.

Brandi was seven weeks, two days old when we brought her home. She weighed three pounds but she gained weight quickly. Four pounds the first month, five the second month, until she topped out at about thirteen (the vet said she weighted too much), we cut down on the treats and she got down to her fighting weight of about eleven pounds.

Brandi brought me through some of the darkest days of my life. We lost a cherished grandson a few days after Brandi joined our family. When I would cry, she would try to bite my face off and would make me laugh. Taking care of her kept me busy and my mind occupied.

I don't think the hole in my heart from losing her will ever heal.

Special Memories of Brandi...

* Brandi didn't know she was a dog…

* It didn't matter WHAT we were eating, Brandi thought she should have some.

* She loved everyone. I worried that she would go off with anyone. Although a lady at the Mall would stop at the car to say "hi" and Brrandi would ignore her.

* If you pet her anywhere near her back legs she would lift one leg or the other hoping to have the inside of her thigh rubbed.

* Often times I would pet her and she would PURR.

* Brandi would work hard to cover up her food (with the towel it was on), then immediately uncover it and eat.

* When she was younger she would jump up on the dash of the car and sleep there (cause for many conversations from people who thought she was being abused).

* She really liked eating flies and locust; the one time she ate a bee, she got stung inside her mouth.

* Once she was toying with a snake in the back yard. When she saw me come out the back door, she grabbed it, shook it and flung it over the fence into the neighbor's yard.

* She would bark at anything "different" in the yard. One evening she started barking at the trash out by the street. I carried her to the end of the driveway to show her it was nothing. I put her down beside the bag, she almost knocked me down trying to get away.

* During the day Brandi wanted to be with her Daddy. Either on his lap when he was in his chair or at his feet when he was stretched out on the couch. But at night she preferred sleeping with me, at the foot of my bed or if she got cold, she would lay beside my shoulder as close as she could possibly get.

Brandi's favorite foods: peanut butter, bananas, bacon. honey nut cheerios, and ice cream.

She also liked: broccoli, chicken, popcorn, shredded carrots, steak/beef, turkey, corn, and sweet potato treats.

Dislikes: getting shots, getting wet, and going to the Vet (even though she had a GREAT Vet).

I'm writing this to commemorate what would have been your 16th birthday….

I didn't know you since the day you were born but I met you soon after. The first time I saw you, I fell in love not knowing you were promised to someone else. It was you I wanted, I would not settle for another. Lucky for me the other person backed out and you became our baby girl.

We had almost sixteen years with you. It was not enough.

I don't know why dogs are with us for such a short time. If I'd know how much it was going to hurt to say goodbye I may not have taken you into my heart. You were the only dog I ever chose for myself. The only dog I called mine (even if you did love your daddy more). The only dog I've ever had to put down.

I NEVER want to do that again.

I miss you and I'll always love you. You left your sweet face and paw prints all over my heart.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…
