Thomas E. Farnon Jr. 1940-2012 YORK, MAINE Thomas E. Farnon ,Jr., died May 23, 2012 at home after a year long battle of lung cancer. He was born on November 13,1940 in Lenox, the son of Thomas E. and Shirley (Johnson) Farnon. He was a graduate of Lenox High School Class of 1959. He received his Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Maine at Gorham in 1971 and his Masters Degree in 1975 from the University of Maine at Portland-Gorham He served honorably for seven years from 1961-1968 in the United States Navy aboard Diesel and Nuclear Attack Submarines. He taught in the York Schools for 24 years beginning at the York Beach Grammar School and retiring in 1995 at the Middle School. For 5 years after retirement he wintered in Florida driving an airboat in the Everglades. For many years he owned and operated a small charter boat business out of York Harbor called Lobstering Trips . He took passengers aboard his boat and showed them how lobsters are caught. Over the years, thousands of visitors to the York area experienced lobsters and lobstering with Capt. Tom. He always insisted that he was a teacher, not a real lobsterman. In the early 1980's he was Harbor Master for the Town of York. He was a member of The American Legion, Post 56,York, a long time member of the Board of Trustees for the York Sewer District and a member of the York Fish and Game Association. He was a Life Member of the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. He is survived by his Partner, Best Friend and True Love, Marlene Farnon of York; a son Jeffry A. Farnon of Eliot, his fiance Kandace (aka Tom's "future ex-daughter in law") and granddaughters Linnea and Shelby; a daughter, Stacey E (Farnon) Donnell of Wells, her husband Zachary and granddaughter Norah Rachel; a sister, Judith Gentile of Somerville, Mass., and a niece and two nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Tom will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 25 in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., York, Maine.
