GEORGE ABEL

George Everett Abel passed away at 12:43 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2018, at his home. A resident of Washington, he was 87.

He was born March 14, 1931 in Knox County; son of James and Mabel (Senning) Abel. He was retired from CSX Railroad and was a US Army Korean War Veteran. He was a member of the Shoals American Legion and St John Catholic Church. He loved working on cars, woodworking, and working Sudoku Puzzles.

He is survived by his wife, Bernadette (Craney) Abel whom he married on April 28, 1956; four sons, John (Sandy) Abel of Shoals, Stephen Abel of Carlisle, Andrew (Becky) Abel of Washington, and Alan Abel of Washington; ten grandchildren, Cody (Sarah) Abel, Beth (John) Way, Josh Lemon, Derek Wininger, Jessy Asher, Eric (Sarah) Abel, Andrea (Jeremy) Frieden, Emily (Craig) Wichman, Adam (Nichole) Abel, Bailey (Tyler) Huckelby; 22 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Mary Jane Veale of Petersburg, and Judy Stafford of Petersburg; and one brother James Abel of California.

George was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Waylon Abel.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, November 9 at St Martin Catholic Church in Whitfield with father Kenneth Walker as celebrant. Burial will follow in St Martin Cemetery with Military Graveside rites by the Shoals American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 8 at Ed Lee Mortuary North Chapel 620 East Viola Avenue.
