Lewiston Falls Academy was the realization of Squire Edward Little's dream. Edward Little came to Goff's corner in Auburn in 1826 to establish his home and to serve as the resident agent of the land and holdings of the vast Little estate, located in the Androscoggin valley. Little was the founder and one of the eleven original trustees of Lewiston Falls Academy. After his death, the board of trustees continued to be in charge of the academy and in 1866 change the name of the school to Edward Little Institute. The chaning of the name of the school was a tribute to the man who had done so much for it. In 1873, the trustees of the Edward Little Institute transferred the school to the city of Auburn to become a free public high school. The name was changed to Edward Little High School in 1874, with a statue of Edward Little on the grounds.
